Who We Are The Holiday Project of the National Capital Area, Inc. is an all-volunteer non-profit organization serving people in Washington DC, Maryland, Virginia and Delaware.
What We Do On holidays throughout the year, we organize groups of people to visit with nursing home residents and hospital patients. We bring the people we visit needed attention, conversation and companionship. We sing holiday songs and give gifts and cards and offer the special gift of ourselves.
Why We Do It Holidays can be very special times of the year. But f or those residing in institutions, they often become lonely days with all too few visitors, cards and gifts and all too many memories of happier times. Our visitors bring a few joyful moments to the people we visit. We give a very special gift and we get an even more special one in return.

Our History The Holiday Project of the National Capital Area, Inc. is a licensed locality of The Holiday Project, a national non-profit serving people throughout the United States. The Holiday Project began in 1971, when eight people visited patients at the Laguna Honda Hospital in San Francisco, California. In 1980, The Holiday Project became a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation.
Since it began, Holiday Project volunteers have visited with over a million people confined in institutions all over the country on holidays throughout the year. The Washington Area Chapter began activities in the mid-70s and still continues to serve people in Maryland, Virginia and Washington DC. In 2000, activities were expanded to include people in Delaware.
Join Our Steering Committee Our Steering Committee does the organizational work to support our Team Leaders in making visits happen.
